Kulgam, August 5: In a significant step towards promoting a drug-free environment, the Revenue Department Kulgam, in collaboration with Noble Helping Hands NGO Bugam, launched a special drive to eliminate wild cannabis from various parts of the district.
The operation was carried out under the directions of Tehsildar Kulgam, Nisar Ahmad, and was closely supervised by Naib-Tehsildar Nasir Ahmad Mantoo, who was accompanied by his team of officials. The drive targeted wild cannabis plants growing in open and unattended areas, which are often linked to the rising threat of drug abuse in the region.
Naib Tehsildar Nasir Ahmad Mantoo, while speaking to the media, said that the initiative is part of a broader campaign aimed at rooting out drug addiction by eliminating the source itself. He added that the department had received clear instructions from the Deputy Commissioner Kulgam to take strong action against the spread of wild cannabis, and that the ultimate goal is to make the district drug-free.
Several locations with a high presence of wild cannabis were identified and cleared during the drive. A revenue official confirmed that this initiative is part of a long-term mission and similar actions will continue in the coming days to curb the drug menace.
Local residents appreciated the efforts of the Revenue Department and the Noble Helping Hands NGO, acknowledging the importance of such proactive measures. They also urged the authorities to sustain these efforts to protect the younger generation from falling prey to substance abuse.
