Kulgam, May 30: In a spirited celebration of World Environment Day 2025, the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Kulgam, under the Zonal Physical Education Office (ZPEO) Qaimoh, organized a Cyclothon and Plog Run to promote environmental awareness and combat plastic pollution.
Under the global theme “Ending Plastic Pollution,” the events aimed to foster environmental consciousness, promote physical fitness, and encourage community involvement in sustainable practices.
The Plog Run was flagged off by Dr. Sajad Ahmad Mir, Principal of Higher Secondary School Qaimoh, in the presence of Mr. Abdul Hameed Shan, Zonal Physical Education Officer (ZPEO) Qaimoh. The run commenced from Higher Secondary School Qaimoh and concluded at Girls High School Qaimoh. Students, teachers, and local residents participated enthusiastically, jogging while collecting plastic waste along the route.
Simultaneously, a Cyclothon was organized to further highlight the urgency of environmental protection and the importance of reducing carbon emissions. Cyclists carried placards and banners promoting eco-friendly habits and the reduction of single-use plastic.
Speaking on the occasion, ZPEO Abdul Hameed Shan emphasized the importance of both individual responsibility and community participation in tackling environmental challenges. He lauded the commitment of students and volunteers and urged them to carry forward the message of sustainability in their daily lives.
These initiatives underscore the proactive approach of the Department of Youth Services and Sports Kulgam in engaging youth to become champions of environmental change. Through such efforts, the department reaffirms its dedication to nurturing an environmentally conscious and active generation.
The events concluded with a pledge by participants to minimize plastic use and continue contributing to a cleaner, greener future.
