Kulgam, April 22: In a commendable humanitarian effort, the Kulgam Police stepped in to aid stranded drivers along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH44), distributing food packets to those affected by a prolonged road closure caused by landslides in the Ramban district.
Led by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kulgam Mumtaz Bhatti, along with Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Mansoor Ahmad and Station House Officer (SHO) Qazigund Masood Ahmad, the police team visited the highway stretch personally to oversee and assist in the relief distribution.
Many of the stranded drivers, stuck for the past three days without adequate food or water, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the police for their timely and compassionate intervention. "This kind gesture by the Kulgam Police has brought us great relief in this difficult time," said one of the drivers.
The Jammu-Srinagar highway remains closed due to heavy landslides near Ramban, resulting in a major traffic halt and leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded. Officials have confirmed that restoration and clearance operations are ongoing, with efforts being made to reopen the highway at the earliest.
This initiative by the Kulgam Police highlights the vital role of law enforcement not just in maintaining order, but also in delivering relief during emergencies.
