Kulgam, June 24: Commuters and residents in Kulgam town are facing severe inconvenience due to the deteriorating condition of public toilets and the only passenger shed in the area, both maintained by the Municipal Council Kulgam.

Locals have voiced strong resentment over the neglect of these essential public utilities. “The public toilets have had no water supply for the past five months,” said a daily commuter. “Their unhygienic condition makes them unusable and poses a serious health hazard.”

The passenger shed, meant to provide shelter for commuters, has also fallen into disrepair. “The structure has been damaged for months. Now, local shopkeepers park their vehicles inside it, leaving no space for passengers to wait—especially during rain or harsh weather,” said another local.

Residents have urged the Municipal Council Kulgam to immediately address the issue by restoring the shed and ensuring regular water supply to the toilets.

In response, Dr. Mohammad Toqeer, Chief Executive Officer of Municipal Council Kulgam, stated, “We had not received any complaint earlier, but I assure that both issues will be resolved within the next two to four days. The facilities will be made fully functional soon.”

Despite the assurance, locals have called for strict monitoring and timely maintenance of public infrastructure to prevent such neglect in the future.
