New Delhi, 03 June, 2025:
Sixteen opposition parties have united to call for a special session of Parliament, stressing the urgent need for a transparent and inclusive discussion on national security and foreign policy developments following Operation Sindoor. In a joint letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the INDI Alliance parties highlighted their collective concern and pressed for a platform to debate crucial matters of national interest.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh and Deependra Hooda, TMC leader Derek O'Brien, SP's Ramgopal Yadav, RJD's Manoj Jha, and Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Sanjay Raut attended the meeting.
Congress MP Deepender Hooda explained that the opposition's call for a special session gained momentum following the recent ceasefire announcement by the United States in a conflict region. "We want to thank our armed forces in Parliament and discuss what measures are being taken to isolate Pakistan and how we plan to move forward," he said.
Today, 16 political parties of the opposition have written a letter to PM Modi that a special session of the Parliament must be called so that all the parties can thank our armed forces. From Pahalgam to Operation Sindoor to America's announcement of the ceasefire to delegations going across the world, we should have discussions on them in the Parliament...We should also discuss how to eradicate terrorism and our further strategies in the Parliament..." he further stated.
Addressing the media, TMC leader Derek O’Brien said, "16 parties have written a letter to the Prime Minister demanding a special session of the Parliament...The letter talks about Poonch, Uri, Rajouri and having a free discussion in Parliament. The government is responsible to the Parliament; Parliament is responsible to the people. That's why we are demanding a special session of the Parliament… The AAP will be writing directly tomorrow to the PM,"
Though according to government sources, there is no plan to convene a special session now, as the Monsoon Session is already scheduled for July.
