A significant fire that started at a jewelry store in Gulzar House, close to the ancient Charminar, early on Sunday morning claimed the lives of at least 17 people, including eight children, and injured a number of others.
Officials said the incident was reported at approximately six in the morning. Twelve fire tenders were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call, according to Fire and Emergency Services staff. For several hours, efforts were made to contain the fire.
There are reportedly a number of children among the injured. For medical care, all of the casualties have been moved to surrounding hospitals. Some of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
A. Revanth Reddy, the chief minister, expressed sorrow over the event. "I have ordered officials to intensify rescue operations," he posted on social networking platform X. Additionally, he promised that the government will help the impacted families in any way possible.
G. Kishan Reddy, MP for Hyderabad and Union Minister for Coal, visited the location and assessed the situation. He spoke with authorities and asked them about the fire's origin and the current rescue operations.
In addition to expressing his sympathy to those who lost loved ones in the fire, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the next of kin of each deceased person would receive an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF.
