2025 International Day against Drug abuse

Drug addiction is a hydra headed monster hitting hard our society. Be it Jammu and Kashmir or Punjab Drug menace is a serious issue for our country. 

Today is the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking .

This day us a United Nations International Day against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade. It is observed annually on 26 June, since 1989. The date June 26 is to commemorate Lin Zexu's dismantling of the opium trade in Humen, Guangdong, ending on June 25, 1839, just before the First Opium War in China. 

In this regard, The observance was instituted by General Assembly Resolution 42/112 of 7 December 1987.

The government of India  will commemorate the 2025  International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26 with a national-level event in Delhi, officials said .

 Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment B L Verma will attend as the chief guest, alongside senior ministry officials.

In the run-up to the day, the government organised a series of awareness activities under its flagship Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), aimed at transforming the campaign into a Jan Andolan or people’s movement.

The menace of Drug addiction is destroying the future of countless families and future of lot of youth . It is a monster that eats both bread winners and economy of family.  The person indulging in Drug addiction writes his own death sentence. 

The Government action against Drug peddlers in entire country is a step taken in right direction.  We should mark the International Day against Drug abuse with pledge to uproot the menace of Drug in our society.

Society elders should also work to uproot the drug menace.
