50 Under Surveillance in Punjab for Links to Arrested Espionage Suspects

CHANDIGARH ,May 20 2025:Punjab Police have intensified their investigation into alleged espionage activities with nearly 50 individuals now under scrutiny for suspected links to six people arrested this month on charges of spying for Pakistan.


According to Police officials , the suspects were apprehended from various districts, including Pathankot, Malerkotla, Bathinda, and Gurdaspur, following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. Through a combination of human intelligence and technical surveillance, authorities have identified approximately 50 individuals believed to have either direct or indirect connections with the accused.


Although none of the 50 individuals have been detained so far, all are under close watch, and their communications and backgrounds are being thoroughly verified.


The arrested individuals include five men and one woman. Among them are Guzala and Yameen Mohammad, who were arrested by Malerkotla Police on May 8 for allegedly passing sensitive military information to a Pakistani official identified as Danish. Guzala reportedly met Danish at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi and began supplying intelligence in exchange for money. 


Investigations show she received ₹10,000 through Yameen and ₹20,000 directly from Danish, before channeling part of the funds to other sources. Both were remanded in police custody until May 12 for further interrogation.

On May 12, Pathankot Police arrested 28-year-old Neeraj Kumar, a local salesman, for issuing fraudulent SIM cards. A complaint revealed that a SIM card activated in Pakistan was issued using forged documents belonging to a local resident. Kumar now faces charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.


In a separate case, Bathinda Police booked Rakib, a tailor working within the Bathinda cantonment, for allegedly possessing classified military documents and maintaining suspicious communication with Pakistani intelligence contacts. Military officials thus , recovered two mobile phones from him, which are now being examined for further leads.


Meanwhile in Gurdaspur, two individuals that is Sukhpreet Singh and Karanbir Singh who were arrested for allegedly sharing sensitive operational details, including troop movement and strategic data, with Pakistan’s ISI. 


The intelligence reportedly pertained to Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory strike following the Pahalgam terror attack.
