A special drive was launched by the Traffic Police in Mangaluru city of Dakshina Kannada district, the main objective of which was to take action against the use of illegal tinted glass or sun-control film in vehicles. In this drive, which lasted from May 2 to May 11, 2025, a total of 504 vehicles were booked and a total fine of ₹2.53 lakh was collected from the drivers.
The Traffic Department said that the visibility was reduced due to the presence of tinted glass or sun film on the windows of the vehicles, which could pose a serious threat to public safety. As a result, immediate action was taken against the violators. During the drive, the Traffic Police set up check posts at various important intersections of the city, checked the vehicles, removed the illegal film and took legal action against the drivers.
The move follows a Supreme Court directive that prohibits the use of any film on vehicle windows that reduces visibility and allows criminal activity to be concealed.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal said in a statement, “Citizens should abide by the law and voluntarily remove such illegal films. Strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the law.”
Police said such drives will continue in the coming days and more efforts will be taken to create awareness among the public. The main objective of the drive is to ensure law-abiding citizens and create a safe environment.
