A blast at a firecracker factory godown in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday killed 8 people and injured 12 others. The blast took place at around 11:30 am at the factory located in the Uthangarai taluk.The deceased have been identified as P. Suresh (45), M. Murugan (38), M. Sivakumar (35), R. Selvakumar (32), R. Mohan (30), S. Ramesh (28), S. Murugan (25), and P. Suresh (22). The injured have been admitted to the Government Hospital in Krishnagiri.
The reason behind blast is yet to be known. However, police suspect that it may have been caused by a spark from a welding machine that was being used at the factory.
Firecracker factories are a common sight in Tamil Nadu, especially during the festive season. However, safety measures are often flouted, leading to accidents.
