The landslide occurred near Lambgaon, about 14 kilometers from Uttarkashi, at around 11 a.m. According to reports, a large boulder fell on the highway, causing a portion of the road to collapse.Traffic on the highway has been blocked since the landslide, and it is not clear when it will be restored. The landslide has also affected the movement of pilgrims and tourists to Kedarnath, one of the most popular pilgrimage destinations in India.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the state authorities to take immediate steps to clear the landslide and restore traffic on the highway. He has also asked the authorities to look after the safety of pilgrims and tourists. This is the second landslide to hit the Gangotri Highway in recent months. In June, a landslide blocked the highway for several days.

The Gangotri Highway is a vital route for pilgrims and tourists traveling to Kedarnath. The highway is also used by locals to access their villages. The landslide is a reminder of the dangers posed by landslides in the mountainous regions of Uttarakhand. The state is prone to landslides, especially during the monsoon season.

In 2013, a devastating landslide in Kedarnath killed thousands of people. The authorities have been working to improve landslide monitoring and early warning systems in Uttarakhand. However, more needs to be done to prevent landslides and mitigate their impact.

The landslide occurred at a location where the highway is narrow and winding and it landslide blocked the highway in both directions. There were no immediate reports of injuries or deaths. The government is taking steps to clear the fallen rocks and mud from the highway so that it can be used again.
