A Week of Heavy Rainfall and Thundershower

In a press release, the Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) Kolkata expressed that due to a powerful monsoon flow, light to moderate rainfall is expected in most areas, but some parts of West Bengal may experience heavy to very heavy rain.


They also forecast this week's weather and gave warnings to the South Bengal and North Bengal areas. Yesterday, South Bengal likely faced light to moderate rain/thundershower at most places over and with a heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely occurred over some places over Purulia and West Midnapore districts and heavy rainfall likely to occur over some places over Bankura, Jhargram, East Midnapore, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas districts of South Bengal. Also, they faced thunderstorms with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) and lightning over some places in all the districts of South Bengal. 


On Tuesday, with heavy rainfall (7-11cm), a little to moderate rain/thundershower is predicted for portions of the Purulia and Jhargram districts. Also, thunderstorms with strong winds (speed reaching 30 - 40 kmph) and lightning are quite likely to strike some places throughout all of South Bengal's districts. 


On Wednesday, again, most of the places of the South Bengal districts will face light to moderate rain/thundershower. On 10th July and 11th July, a few districts of the southern distinct regions will face light to moderate rain/thundershower. Again on Saturday and Sunday, many places of all the South Bengal districts will face lighter to moderate rain/thundershower.


On Sunday, many places in the districts of North Bengal faced light to moderate rain/thundershower with heavy rainfall (7-11cm) in some places over Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts. Today, many places in North Bengal districts are about to face light to moderate rain/thundershower. On Wednesday, also, the northern districts and mostly over the districts of Jalpaiguri, Kalingpong and Alipurduar will face light to moderate rain/thundershower with heavy rainfall (7-11cm). Thursday, probably many places over Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Coochbehar and Alipurduar districts of North Bengal and also likely to occur over a few places over the rest districts of North Bengal. On Friday, all the North Bengal districts are likely to experience light to moderate rain/thundershower. On Saturday, the North Bengal districts will probably face light to moderate rain/thundershower and heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some places over the Jalpaiguri district. On Sunday, most locations throughout the northern Bengal districts are expecting light to moderate rain/thundershower with a heavy rainfall over some places of the districts Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong and Alipurduar.


The RMC Kolkata also advised fishermen not to go along and off the West Bengal-Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal till 08 8th July 2025 as the sea conditions to be rough and very rough. The wind speed can reach from 35 – 45 kmph to gusty 55 kmph.
