June 1 2025:Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut has strongly criticized the West Bengal government, drawing parallels with authoritarian regimes and urging the immediate release of a woman recently arrested over a social media post.
In a bold statement, Ranaut remarked that “The West Bengal government should not attempt to turn the state into another North Korea." She highlighted that today's youth often use informal language on social media and that such expressions should be understood in context.
Referring to the arrested individual, the actor said, "When someone has already apologised and taken down their post, imprisoning them, subjecting them to harsh treatment, destroying their career, and maligning their character is deeply unjust. She should be released without delay."
Ranaut’s comments have sparked widespread discussion on social media , with many echoing concerns over freedom of expression and the consequences of social media activity in politically sensitive climates.
Authorities have not yet responded to her remarks.
