As the number of fresh Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra is once again soaring, state health minister Rajesh Tope urged people to wear masks. The state is witnessing a rapid rise of the cases in Mumbai, Pune, and Thane given the rise, wearing the masks has been suggested particularly in these cities.
After a cabinet meeting on Monday, Mr. Tope informed that some attendees at a recent party hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar had tested positive for the virus too. A few days ago, BJP leader and former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis also tested positive for the Covid-19 and had remained in isolation.
“We told the chief minister to urge the public (to get tested). We are also appealing to the people to take precautionary doses of the Covid vaccine. Those who have completed nine months of the second dose should take the booster." Rajesh Tope said.
Additional Chief Secretary, Dr. Pradeep Vyas also showed his concern over the rise in the cases in the state. He wrote a letter to all district authorities and gave several directions including wearing masks.
“Mask in closed public spaces like trains, buses, cinemas, auditoriums, offices, hospitals, colleges, schools is a must,” he said.
