The Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force commanders met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. They gave her a detailed briefing on the recent military operation, Operation Sindoor. Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan attended the meeting, where the planning, conduct, and success of the operation were briefed.
Operation Sindoor was initiated on May 7, a fortnight after a terrorist strike on Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, that had killed twenty-six individuals, who were mostly innocent tourists. The Indian army had responded by undertaking a highly targeted operation against the terrorist camps along the Line of Control, in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
The military commanders informed the President in the meeting about the operation, careful planning, coordination at the highest level, and accurate strikes. The President was informed by the military commanders that the operation was conducted in such a way that civilian casualties were minimal and the losses were minimized. The President admired the professionalism and bravery displayed by the armed forces and said that the entire nation is supporting them with pride.
The chiefs also explained how the Army, Navy, and Air Force cooperated with one another to carry out the operation with perfection. Their coordination was an indication of how India's military is ready to retaliate swiftly and fiercely when the country's security is questioned.
President Murmu believed in the military and appreciated their dedication to national defense. She said that India would never be under the control of terrorism and that the security of citizens is the first concern of the government.
The meeting of the President with topmost military leaders underscores the importance of interface between military and national leadership. This is necessary to ensure that actions of security are understood and approved at the highest level.
Operation Sindoor continues to be a beacon even today of India's determination to fight terrorism and protect national security with strength, unity, and dynamism.
