In a significant development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday launched a fresh attack on Bangladesh, asserting that those who "habitually threaten" India on the Chicken's Neck corridor should note the neighbouring country has two "chicken necks", which are "far more vulnerable".

It is worth noting here that Sarma made the remarks while making a reference to India's strategically crucial Chicken's Neck, known as the Siliguri Corridor. It is a narrow strip of land, measuring around 22 km-35 km in width, that connects the Northeast with the rest of India.

Bangladesh has two of its own 'chicken necks'. Both are far more vulnerable. First is the 80 km North Bangladesh Corridor - from Dakshin Dinajpur to South West Garo Hills. Any disruption here can completely isolate the entire Rangpur division from the rest of Bangladesh," he said in a post on X.

Second is the 28 km Chittagong Corridor, from South Tripura till the Bay of Bengal. This corridor, smaller than India's chicken neck, is the only link between Bangladesh's economic capital and political capital," he added.

As a matter of fact, Sarma's remarks came weeks after Bangladesh's chief advisor and Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus brought up India's "landlocked" Northeast during his recent visit to China and positioned the country as the "only guardian of the ocean" for this region.

In response, Sarma put Bangladesh on notice amid Dhaka's growing interest in India's Chicken's Neck corridor.
