West Bengal ,May 2025:
Thousands of teachers in West Bengal who were not "specifically tainted" in the 2016 recruitment scam are now preparing for the possibility of a retest to retain their jobs beyond December 31.
While the Supreme Court has allowed interim relief in April, it mandated that any reinstated teachers must appear for a fresh exam with age relaxations.
Protesters are now demanding further concessions, such as bonus marks for teaching experience.
The Deserving Teachers’ Right Forum has requested a meeting with Education Minister Bratya Basu to discuss their demands.
On the other hand ,The state government and the School Service Commission (SSC) must submit a detailed affidavit by May 31 ,outlining the new recruitment process.
The SSC is now expected to issue the new notification after May 27. Protesters also insist that only candidates from the 2016 State and Regional Level Selection Tests be allowed to appear for the retest, not fresh applicants.
A review petition is pending in the Supreme Court, but teachers are preparing for the likely outcome of having to requalify.
