 Bengaluru, June 20, 2025:

Authorities confirmed that a significant security operation at Kempegowda International Airport was prompted by a bomb threat email on Thursday afternoon.

However, following an hours long search, no explosives were discovered. The alert was sent to airport security and police at approximately 14:30 local time. Two bombs, one designated "Plan A" and a backup "Plan B," were allegedly planted on the premises, according to the message. One of the devices was concealed in a pipeline inside the terminal's restrooms.

The airport's security was immediately tightened. Parts of the terminal were temporarily evacuated while sniffer dogs and technical teams conducted comprehensive sweeps, and the Central Industrial Security Force, local police, bomb disposal squads, canine units, and firefighters were called in.

According to an airport spokesperson, the search went on "for several hours" throughout the airside area and both terminals. Mobile bomb response units searched pipelines, restrooms, and baggage, but they were unable to locate any suspicious objects or gadgets.

Regarding the email addresses used to send the threat, police have filed a formal case and are investigating where it came from. Investigations are being conducted to ascertain whether the threat was made by a single person or by a group, as well as whether it was connected to previous hoax incidents, according to a senior officer.

In the evening, airport operations gradually resumed. Following the issuance of the all clear, all flights and passenger services were fully restored. Authorities also stated that there were no real dangerous devices and that neither passengers nor infrastructure were harmed.

This incident is the most recent in a series of bomb hoax incidents that have occurred at Indian public spaces, schools, and airports. Citing the prevalence of such threats nationwide, investigators emphasized how seriously even false alerts must be handled to protect public safety. "We cannot afford to take any chances," stated a senior security official.

Even fictitious threats cause disruptions to passengers and operations, and they need to be addressed immediately. Until the investigation is finished, passengers are being advised to check with their airlines and to arrive early for safety checks.

Additionally, authorities have called for the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious communications right away as they may affect airport security.
