28 June, 2025:

In a significant change for India's voting process, Bihar has become the first state to allow people to cast their votes using a mobile app. The pilot project started during municipal elections in six councils and represents a major step toward a more inclusive and modern voting system.

This initiative aims to make elections easier to access for those who cannot reach the polling booths. Reports indicate that the system uses new technologies like blockchain and facial recognition to ensure strong security and transparency.

The app is designed to provide both security and clarity. It symbolizes what can happen when innovation meets democracy. Bihar’s bold experiment could lead to a nationwide change in how India votes.

Bihar State Election Commissioner Deepak Prasad announced an important development in the state’s electoral process. He stated, “e-voting will take place today, on June 28, 2025, during the municipal polls in six councils, three in Patna and two in Rohtas and East Champaran.”

This initiative aims to assist those who have real challenges in reaching polling stations. This includes senior citizens, people with disabilities, pregnant women, and migrant workers. Prasad mentioned, “10,000 voters have registered for e-voting, and 50,000 voters will be able to cast their votes through e-voting without going to polling booths.”

To prevent misuse and fraud, the e-voting system relies on technologies like blockchain, face matching, and scanning. Strict measures are in place to maintain the integrity of the process. Only two registered voters can log in using one mobile number. Each vote will be checked against the voter's ID to ensure its authenticity. Reports indicate that the system has been carefully designed to keep the democratic process fair, transparent, and secure.

Bihar’s State Election Commission has provided a step-by-step process for voters who wish to cast their ballot through their mobile phones. To begin, voters need to download the e-SECBHR app, which is currently available only for Android devices. The app must then be linked to the mobile number registered in the electoral roll. Once the verification is complete, voters will be eligible to cast their vote either through the State Election Commission’s official website or directly via the e-SECBHR app on polling day.

This effort represents a strong move to make the voting process more inclusive and easier for everyone.
