BJP’s Anurag Thakur Mocks Congress Over ‘Nimbu-Mirchi on Rafale’ Remark

Union Minister Anurag Thakur has strongly criticized Congress leader Ajay Rai’s recent stunt of hanging lemons and chillies on a toy Rafale aircraft, calling it an insult to the Indian Air Force and the nation’s defense capabilities. Thakur alleged that while the Rafale fighter jets have been bought to enhance India's air power, they are being mocked by Congress by adding "nimbu mirchi" (lemon and chillies) to them, as it is an omen of bad luck and contempt.

He asserted that the Congress party has consistently insulted India's defense personnel and initiatives towards national security and asserted that the action indicates the party's "pro-Pakistan mindset" and fear of India's emerging defense capabilities.

Thakur further said that the Congress itself "has become a joke," citing what he calls constant attempts by the party to deride and discourage India's defense and security establishments.

He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is committed to bolstering the armed forces with technology and zero tolerance towards terrorism. Thakur's comments are a reiteration of the BJP's grand narrative of holding Congress responsible for echoing Pakistan's propaganda and questioning India's defense efforts, especially in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and other security concerns.

The Ajay Rai "nimbu mirchi" over Rafale has brought out widespread outrage from BJP leaders, who see it as a calculated move to degrade the Indian Air Force and undermine public confidence.

Thakur's words highlight the burgeoning political war of words on national security rhetoric, with the BJP trying to project itself as the party of unyielding patriotism and defense, and attempting to paint Congress as undermining these by making provocative speeches and symbolic actions.
