The Centre held a high-level all-party meeting in New Delhi today in the aftermath of the escalation of tensions with Pakistan in the aftermath of India's Operation Sindoor aimed at nine terror camps inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
The meeting, presided over by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and attended by senior government functionaries such as Amit Shah, S. Jaishankar, and opposition party leaders such as Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, was intended to inform political parties about the aims, behaviour, and ramifications of the military operation.
The leaders were informed about the terror targets struck specifically, such as major places related to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, and India's preparedness for any possible counter-attack by Pakistan.
The government emphasized unity, with the message of PM Modi that the country needs to unite in such critical times. Opposition parties like Congress and TMC were in full support of the armed forces and the government actions against terrorism.
The gathering comes before 27 northern, western, and central Indian airports remain shut to commercial air traffic until May 10 as a precautionary measure and security drills are being undertaken across the country.
The government once again reiterated its guarantees of national security and appealed to all concerned to show solidarity as situations unfold.
