Bhubaneswar May 22 2025:On Wednesday, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan said that the upcoming Chandrayaan-4 mission will be ISRO’s most complex and technologically advanced lunar project to date.
Addressing scientists at the Central Tool Room and Training Centre (CTTC), Narayanan revealed that Chandrayaan-4 aims to collect lunar surface samples and return them to Earth — a first for India.
“This mission will validate critical technologies such as lunar ascent, mid-space sample transfer, and Earth re-entry,” he said.
Slated for 2027, the mission will feature four modules which are transfer, lander, ascender, and re-entry.
Concurrently, preparations are also underway for Chandrayaan-5 in collaboration with Japan’s JAXA, and for Gaganyaan, India’s first manned spaceflight.
On Operation Sindoor, the ISRO chief said the agency is supporting national security through its satellite network . However , declined to reveal operational details.
