Channi's comments on surgical strikes create a storm, BJP is fuming with anger

Congress leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has once again sparked a controversy over the surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army on Pakistani soil after the Uri attack. He added fuel to the fire by commenting, "There is no evidence of surgical strikes," which was met with strong reactions from several BJP leaders, including Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

While participating in the 'Drug-Free India' march in Chandigarh on Saturday, Chief Minister Saini said, "Channi is not speaking from his own mind, he is speaking in someone else's language. This is very unfortunate. Does he not see such a big attack? Hasn't he seen the Uri attack?"

Saini also said, "When the country is united against terrorism, Congress leaders are repeatedly trying to break the morale of the army by making such comments. This is not only political irresponsibility, but also a kind of insult to the country."

Channi's comment was, "I still don't understand where the surgical strike took place, who died, and where exactly Pakistan attacked. No one saw it. I have always been asking for proof."

In the wake of this statement, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa reacted strongly. He said, "Channi's statement is not just his—it is a reflection of the traditional mentality supported by the Gandhi family, who have repeatedly questioned the sacrifice and courage of the Indian Army."

He further added, "When Pakistan itself has admitted that they were affected by India's surgical strike, the Channi are denying that fact and asking for proof! This is not politics, this is anti-nationalism."

The BJP's propaganda has become more aggressive around this stance of the opposition. They claim that if a political party repeatedly questions the country's security, it is against the trust of the people and the honor of the army.

The controversy over surgical strikes is not new. But in the midst of the Lok Sabha elections, Channi's comments and the BJP's counterattack proved once again that national security is a burning issue in India's political discourse.
