Thrissur, May 22 2025:A stunning cricket ground nestled deep within the greenery of Kerala’s Thrissur district has taken the internet by storm, with viewers initially mistaking it for a scene from the Amazon rainforest or an AI-generated landscape.
The picturesque field, known as Palappilly ground, is located within the Harrisons Malayalam Plantation in Varandarappilly. The ground's lush surroundings and serene setting have captivated millions online, earning it viral fame.
The video that sparked the buzz was posted by social media content creator Sreejith S, who is known for showcasing offbeat locations across Kerala. Filmed using a drone, the clip shows a group of people enjoying a cricket match amidst dense greenery. The video was captioned: "This is not Amazon rainforest."
Since being uploaded on Instagram, the clip has amassed over 37.6 million views and thousands of comments, with users praising the location’s surreal beauty.
“Absolutely breathtaking. Some might even think it’s AI,” one comment read. Another user quipped, “Who’s going to find the ball in that jungle?”
Responding to the overwhelming response, Sreejith expressed gratitude to his followers: “This video blew up, but it’s not even my personal favorite. Still, thank you all for the incredible love and support!”
According to Mathrubhumi.com, the Palappilly cricket ground was originally developed by the Harrisons Malayalam company decades ago for the recreational use of its plantation workers.
Often dubbed “God’s Own Country,” Kerala is famed for its natural beauty, and this viral cricket ground has become the latest example of the state’s unique and serene landscapes.
