Delhi AQI drops to 'Very Poor'; rain, fog expected

Air quality index in Delhi again fell into the 'very poor' category at 381 on Thursday, a day after GRAP III curbs were imposed in the national capital.

Meanwhile, IMD predicts light to moderate fog in Delhi for the rest of the week and light rain on Feb 3. The rain will clear the fog and improve the air quality slightly.

Minimum temperature will be around 8 degrees Celsius and maximum will be around 26 degrees Celsius today, IMD says.

GRAP III kicks in in Delhi again on Wednesday as AQI turns ‘very poor’.

Centre-led CAQM says dense fog, variable winds and unfavourable meteorological conditions are the main reasons for deteriorating AQI in Delhi.

GRAP III restrictions include ban on construction, BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel cars and online classes for primary school students. GRAP III will continue for the rest of the week.
CAQM has asked authorities to ban all excavation and filling work, demolition, painting, polishing and varnishing, cement and plaster work (except minor indoor repairs) and road construction and major repairs under GRAP III.

GRAP 5 was lifted last week in Delhi as air quality improved.

Meanwhile, dense fog and low visibility in northern states has affected over 400 flights. Flights are likely to be hit for the next two days too.
