Delhi's air quality 'poor', fog disrupts commuters

Delhi is in the “poor” category for the second day this week with an AQI of 264 at 6 am today as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Fog has also disrupted traffic.

Meanwhile, the capital is in a cold wave with IMD forecasting a minimum temp of 11 degrees today with moderate fog and a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning over Delhi and rain.

Fog has disrupted traffic. 9 trains arriving in Delhi from various parts of the country were delayed due to low visibility. Flight operations at IGI airport were also affected with several departures and arrivals delayed.

Max temp will be between 21 to 24 degrees.

Several areas in Delhi have alarming AQI levels. Anand Vihar (312), Rohini (301), and Bawana (314) are in the “very poor” category. ITO (313), Jahangirpuri (294), and Patparganj (289) are marginally better but still bad. Shadipur (174) is in the “moderate” category, with some relief.

AQI has improved from “very poor” but still poses health risks, especially in sensitive areas.

Earlier on Friday the Centre had lifted restrictions under Stage 3 of GRAP in Delhi and surrounding areas as air quality improved in the city.

Yesterday the Commission for Air Quality Management rolled back GRAP 4 in Delhi-NCR.
