DK Shivakumar Announces Major Eco-Friendly Push Under 'Greater Bengaluru' Initiative

Bengaluru, June 2 2025:


On Sunday ,June 1 ,Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, D.K. Shivakumar, reaffirmed the state government's commitment to building a greener and cleaner Bengaluru, announcing a series of environmental measures under the ambitious ‘Greater Bengaluru’ initiative.


Speaking about ongoing efforts to improve urban sustainability, Shivakumar highlighted the rollout of thousands of electric buses as part of the city’s transition toward cleaner public transport. 


“Our vision for a greener Bengaluru is a priority and the introduction of electric buses is just one step in our broader plan to address environmental challenges.”he stated.


In a move to reinforce civic hygiene, the Deputy CM also declared the launch of a new campaign called “Clean Bengaluru” which is set to be formally introduced on June 6. 


Additionally, the administration has renewed its focus on reducing plastic use, with a city-wide ban being enforced more rigorously.


Furthermore, he shared that over ₹38 crore has been allocated for fencing and securing the city’s lakes, aiming to protect Bengaluru's declining water bodies and restore ecological balance.


Calling upon citizens, institutions, and civil society organizations, Shivakumar has urged everyone to join hands in the ‘Green Bengaluru’ mission. 


He said “This is a collective responsibility. The success of this initiative depends on the active participation of all stakeholders”.


These initiatives fall under the broader ‘Greater Bengaluru’ project, aims to transform the city into a more livable, sustainable urban hub through strategic environmental and infrastructural interventions.
