09 July, 2025:

On Tuesday, in response to the FIR filed in connection with the deaths of 11 lives in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) victory parade, the Karnataka High Court instructed not to file a charge sheet.

It’s been a month, the Bengaluru stampede occurred during the victory parade of RCB’s maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title. The parade resulted in 11 people dead while 56 were injured. After winning the maiden trophy, in hours, RCB announced a victory parade starting at Vidhana Soudha and ending at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru at 5pm to 6pm on 4th June 2025 in their social media accounts. According to Bengaluru Police, they had refused RCB's permission to hold the event at Chinnaswamy Stadium but management did not cooperate and it led to the stampede.

The FIR filed at the Cubbon Park Police Station, reported criminal carelessness in the tragic event. The Bengaluru police said in the FIR, “permission for the event at the stadium was denied. Despite this, KSCA, RCB, and DNA went ahead with their plans and ignored the police's instructions." ; "Without any official permission, on June 4, RCB announced their celebration and victory parade on their social media and website, inviting fans to join," Bengaluru police also stated, "Once this news spread on TV channels and social media, we (Police) informed our senior officers and requested security and necessary arrangements.” The police also said that they provided police for providing security at the stadium but KSCA, RCB, and DNA failed to organize a plan for managing the entry of the crowd.

The FIR was lodged against RCB, event organizers DNA and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for their negligence about the event. Though the High Court of Karnataka gave time to hear petitions by RCB and DNA Entertainment Networks Private Limited challenging criminal cases against them on 10 June, 2025.

On Tuesday, after the lawyers of RCB, DNA and KSCA informed the court that they are cooperating with police investigations into the FIRs related to the stampede, Justice SR Krishna Kumar informed the police “not to file a final report without leave of the court”. Although the state government informed the court that the police would probably need a month to wrap up the investigation; the court responded that regardless of the duration required, the police must not submit any final report without the court’s permission.
