Ponmudi was recently acquitted in a land-grabbing case registered against him by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.
Ponmudy is the second DMK leader to have come under the ED scanner. Earlier, minister V Senthil Balaji was arrested by ED following raids at his premises.
The ruling DMK dubbed the action a "political vendetta" and a "drama done by the BJP".
