Explosions, sirens, darkness on the border: India thwarts Pakistani attack, destroys multiple missiles

From late Thursday night to early Friday morning—the India-Pakistan border was like a war rehearsal. Air raid warning sirens started sounding in several border towns of Jammu and Kashmir, power was completely cut off in many places, and loud explosions could be heard in the air and on the ground.

The Indian Army said on Friday that multiple drone and missile attacks launched by Pakistan on the intervening night of May 8 and 9 have been completely foiled. Although Pakistan attempted to attack along the entire western border, India successfully repelled them.It is learnt that Pakistan had fired at least eight missiles in the Satwari, Samba, RS Pura and Arnia areas of Jammu. However, India's powerful S-400 air defense system destroyed them in the air. In addition, warning sirens were sounded in Akhnoor, Baramulla and Kupwara areas, and power was cut off in some areas to reduce the risk of damage.

The day before, on Thursday, the Indian army had said that Pakistan had attempted to launch drone and missile attacks on military installations in 15 cities in the north and west of the country, which were foiled. In retaliation, India struck several areas in Pakistan, including destroying Pakistan's air defense system in Lahore.

This extreme tension began after the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, in which 26 people were killed. In retaliation, India carried out precision strikes on 9 terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under 'Operation Sindoor'.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh told an all-party meeting on Thursday that at least 100 terrorists were killed in that operation.

In the current situation, tension on the border is at its peak. Anxiety and security fears have spread among the common people. However, the preparedness and defense capabilities of the Indian Army and security forces have shown that the country is in safe hands. Now the focus is on the international response and next steps.
