Assam govt asks police to take action against influencer Abhishek Kar for spreading misinformation about the state in a viral podcast. Kar’s comments in a YouTube podcast were flagged by the Assam CM’s Office and now under legal scanner.
Kar who has over 1.8 million subscribers on his YouTube channel was talking about the mystical practices of Assam’s Mayong village.
In the podcast he made some sensational claims, he said women in Mayong can turn men into goat or other animals and then turn them back into humans at night and have physical relations. He even suggested people can “Google” it to verify the information.
Mayong in Morigaon district has been associated with mystical traditions and folk medicine for long. But the magic is more related to its traditional medicine and healing practices rather than the sensational claims Kar made.
The comments went viral on social media and people are outraged. CM’s Office posted on X (formerly Twitter) saying Kar’s comments are “unacceptable” and “appropriate action." Assam Police led by DGP GP Singh confirmed that CID will investigate the matter and take lawful action against Kar for spreading misinformation about Assam’s history and traditions.
