A fire broke out in a factory in Mayapuri, Delhi on July 28, 2023. The fire started at around 5:30 pm and spread to the entire factory. It took 16 fire tenders over 5 hours to bring the fire under control. Nine people were injured in the incident and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Investigations are going on to know the reason behind the fire.

There have been two major fires in Delhi in the past week and this is the second one. On July 22, a fire broke out in a factory in Narela industrial area, killing 4 people. The Delhi government has ordered an inquiry into both fire incidents.

The fire in Mayapuri factory is a reminder of the need for fire safety measures in factories. Factories should have adequate fire safety equipment and procedures in place to prevent and control fire incidents. Employees should also be trained in fire safety measures.

WHAT ARE THE MEASURES TO BE TAKEN TO STAY SAFE FROM FIRES IN INDUSTRIES?

1) Have a fire safety plan in place and train all employees on it.

2) Install fire alarms and sprinklers in all areas of the factory.

3) Keep fire exits clear and free of obstructions.

4) Have a fire extinguisher in every work area.

5) Conduct regular fire drills.

6) Educate employees about   fire safety and the importance of calling 911 immediately if a fire starts.

The fire in Mayapuri factory is a serious incident that could have been much worse if not for the quick response of the firefighters. The Delhi government needs to take steps to ensure that factories in the city are properly equipped with fire safety measures and that employees are trained in fire safety.Only by taking steps to address the root causes of these tragedies can we hope to prevent them from happening again.
