NOIDA:

A tragic accident in Noida’s Sector 20 claimed the life of a five-year-old girl on Saturday night after a speeding BMW collided with a scooter near the Post Graduate Institute of Child Health in Sector 30. The deceased child, identified as Ayaat, was travelling with her father and uncle when the incident occurred. Two others, Gul Mohammad and Raja, sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment.

According to police officials, the incident took place late in the night as the family was exiting the hospital premises. “The victims had just come out of the hospital on a scooter when the BMW, reportedly moving at high speed, rammed into them,” said a senior police officer from Sector 20 police station. “Ayaat was declared dead soon after the accident, and the two injured are being treated for their injuries.”

Initial reports suggest that the BMW driver lost control of the vehicle before hitting the scooter. The driver did not stop at the site, and a search is currently underway to trace the vehicle and its owner. The car has been identified through CCTV footage collected from the area.

“The CCTV footage has helped us narrow down the registration details of the BMW. The driver fled the scene, and we are making all efforts to trace him,” the police officer added. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including causing death by negligence and rash driving, has been registered.

The local community has reacted with shock and outrage over the incident. “This was a completely avoidable accident,” said a resident of Sector 30. “Such reckless driving in a busy hospital area shows complete disregard for human life.”

Police have urged the public to come forward with any eyewitness accounts or footage that might help in locating the vehicle and establishing a clearer picture of how the incident unfolded.

Ayaat’s family is reported to be in a state of deep shock. “They had brought her for treatment, never expecting that such a tragedy would happen outside a hospital,” said a neighbour who visited them after the incident.

Noida authorities have come under pressure to take strict action against overspeeding, especially in sensitive zones like hospitals and school areas. Meanwhile, increased police patrolling and surveillance are being considered as immediate measures to prevent similar incidents.

Investigations are ongoing, and the post-mortem report of the deceased has been ordered. The police have assured that the accused will be brought to justice swiftly.
