Pauri Garhwal –
Cabinet Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat disclosed that the Ghandiyal Devta Temple, which lies deep within thick cover of oak and rhododendron forests, shall no longer be a site of religious devotion alone but shall soon find itself on the tourism map. Dr. Rawat walked five kilometers through trekking from Bharsar to pay obeisance at the temple.
He stressed the fact that Ghandiyal Devta Temple, situated at Budha Bharsar, is a culmination of natural and religious importance. The calm and scenic beauty has immense potential for tourists. He also added that the approach road to the temple will be well developed and basic facilities will be provided.
The minister added that developing this religious site from a tourism perspective will not only strengthen the local economy but also help preserve the region’s folk culture and traditions. He also hinted that the state government would soon draft a concrete plan in this direction.
Local villagers in Budha Bharsar reported that in April each year, villagers from the three villages of Bali Kandarsyun, Chopra Kot, and Dhaaijyuli host a community feast (bhandara) at the temple that draws thousands of the faithful. The time-honored practice is an important manifestation of local religion.
A number of officials and local people were present on the occasion, including DFO Swapnil Aniruddha, District Tourism Development Officer Khushal Singh Negi, Naib Tehsildar Upendra Rana, Block Development Officer Pabo Dhoom Singh, SI Bir Singh Panwar, Sampat Singh Rawat, Narendra Rawat, BJP Mandal President Vimal Negi, and others. Officials from other departments were also invited.
