A gruesome road crash in Raipur district's Saragaon region late on Sunday (May 11, 2025) claimed the lives of 13 people. 9 women and 4 children were among the dead. At least 11 others were injured in the crash.
Police informed that a family from Chataud village had gone to a family function in the nearby Bangsari village. They were returning at night in a truck after the function. While on their way back, their truck crashed head-on with a trailer truck on the Raipur-Balodabazar road near Saragaon. The collision was so strong that several died on the spot.
No sooner was the news received than the police of Kharora police station area rushed to the site. The injured were rescued on the spot and admitted to Raipur's Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital. Hospital sources say that the condition of a number of them is critical.
On the behalf of the district administration, Raipur District Collector Gaurav Singh himself visited the location. He informed that all types of help is being given to the families of the dead, sympathizing with them. All the required steps have been taken for the treatment of the injured.
Police have filed a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the reason for the accident. A speeding car is said to have caused the accident, at least according to initial speculation.
The accident has left a shadow of sadness over the locality. People from the area told us that accidents like this are constantly occurring on this road because there is no speed control and maintenance of heavy vehicles.
