India now has the world’s 3rd-largest metro network: Prez Murmu

India has the third largest metro network in the world said President Droupadi Murmu in the joint session of Parliament on Friday.

She said the country has crossed the 1000 km mark in metro rail network and “India has the third largest metro network”.

The President listed out the government’s achievements in expanding the rail network and modernising it at the same time and also connecting the unconnected areas for the first time.

“Today we have Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat and Namo Bharat trains running. In the last six months 17 Vande Bharat trains and one Namo train have been introduced. We are moving fast… In the last 10 years my government has given new momentum to the journey of Viksit Bharat.”

She also said that in the last six months the central government has invested record amount in future infrastructure and mentioned the engineering wonder of Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project
“I am happy to inform you that Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project has been completed and now the country will be connected by railway line from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Under this project the world’s highest rail bridge has been built over Chenab river,” she said.

After successful trial runs of passenger and freight trains USBRL project is going to be inaugurated in first week of February 2025.

President Droupadi Murmu in her Praleimant also said that digital fraud and deepfakes are serious threats to national security and that government is working to check this. She said, “My government is working continuously to make cyber security efficient. Digital fraud, cybercrime and DeepFake are threats to social, financial and national security.”

She said today India is a major player in the digital space. “Developed countries are also impressed with India’s UPI transactions system…My government has used digital as a tool for social justice and equality”.

The President said the government wants to make India an innovation hub. “We want to make India an innovation powerhouse…In AI, India’s AI Mission has been launched,” she said.

In her address to the joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha President Murmu listed out the government’s schemes and targets. She said the government is committed to fulfill the dreams of the poor and middle class and also to make India an innovation hub.

“Today our youth is winning in every field from startups to sports to space…India is showing the way to the world in AI and technology,” she said.
