India Poised to Become Global Consumption Hub

India is poised to become the consumption hub of the world, fueled by strong economic and demographic changes. Consumption now accounts for 56% of India's GDP, which is the fastest-growing part of the economy, states a report by Angel One and Iconic Asset.

India's consumption is expected to double to 2034, driven by a growing consumer base and changing societal dynamics, the report states.

Among the reasons for this expansion is the increasing number of nuclear families, which are growing more rapidly than overall population expansion.

This phenomenon increases household consumption because smaller households are more likely to consume more goods and services.

Moreover, India will be projected to lead workforce expansion worldwide, continuing to shape its economic horizon and enhancing disposable incomes.

The report also points out that India's savings are likely to touch $103 trillion in the next 25 years—a tenfold rise from $12 trillion saved between 1997 and 2023. This growth in savings will release enormous potential for incremental consumption. Recent tax reductions are likely to add another Rs 3.3 lakh crore to consumption, which could add 1% to GDP growth.

As India keeps going down this path, its strong domestic demand and investment in various industries make it a leading force in the global economy. This trend highlights India's ability to be a leader in consumption-led growth, driven by its growing middle class and increasing consumer expenditure.
