An Indian soldier was martyred in duty at an airbase in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district. Even though a drone deployed by Pakistan was successfully shot down in mid-air by the Indian air defense system on Saturday, the soldier was severely hurt due to a piece of the drone that was shot down. He was subsequently shifted to the hospital where he succumbed, officials said.
This occurred a day before the recent ceasefire announced between Pakistan and India. Incidentally, in retaliation of the terrorist strike at Pahalgaon, on May 7 the Indian army attacked Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir targeting 9 terror camps using missiles. Tensions have prevailed at the border since then. With this backdrop, the attack on the Udhampur airbase by a Pakistani drone happened.
As per army reports, a few drone attacks by Pakistan were launched on the airbase at Udhampur on Saturday morning. The Indian army's aerial defense unit successfully destroyed those drones mid-air. But one of the shrapnel descended and struck on-duty soldier. He was hurried to the hospital in an injured state, but he could not be saved.
The martyred soldier's name is Surendra Singh Moga. He was a native of Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan.
