Vanshika, a 21-year-old Indian student from Dera Bassi, Punjab, was found dead in Ottawa, Canada, four days after she had gone missing. The Indian High Commission in Ottawa confirmed the death and said local authorities are probing the cause.
Vanshika, whose father is AAP leader Devinder Singh, had come to Ottawa two and a half years back to study a diploma course. She went missing on April 25 after leaving her home to see a viewing of a rent room. She had turned off her phone that night, and she also did not take a crucial exam the following day, which was uncommon for her.
Her father, Devinder Singh, was deeply saddened by the death of his daughter. He said that Vanshika was a brilliant and ambitious student with big dreams for her future. "She was our pride and joy. This loss is immeasurable," he said.
Indian High Commission said, "We are saddened to learn of the passing away of Ms. Vanshika, an Indian student in Ottawa. The issue has been raised with concerned authorities, and the cause is being investigated according to local police.
The Embassy remains closely in touch with Vanshika's family and local community associations to assist her to the fullest extent. The probe into the circumstances leading to her death continues.
The tragic event has caused alarm in the Indian student community in Canada. The authorities advise students to be vigilant and stay in touch with local support networks.
