Indian Women’s Hockey Team Gears Up for High-Stakes Australia Tour After Intense National Camp

Following a rigorous month-long national training camp, the Indian women’s hockey team is set to embark on a competitive five-match tour against Australia, scheduled from April 26 to May 4 at the Perth Hockey Stadium. The series will serve as a vital test for the squad ahead of key international commitments.

India will open their tour with back-to-back encounters against Australia A on April 26 and 27, before locking horns with the world’s fifth-ranked Australian senior team on May 1, 2, and 4.

The Indian side last appeared in the FIH Hockey Pro League (Women) on home soil, delivering a mixed performance across eight matches. However, they closed their campaign on a high by outplaying World No. 1 Netherlands in a dramatic shootout after a gripping 2-2 draw—securing a morale-boosting bonus point.

Head Coach Harendra Singh has announced a 26-player squad, captained by Salima Tete and vice-captained by Navneet Kaur. All eyes will be on rising star Deepika, the young drag-flicker who impressed in the Pro League with three critical goals and is expected to continue her offensive momentum in Australia.

Udita Singh also stood out in the Pro League, contributing two goals and showing defensive consistency throughout her four appearances. Veteran goalkeeper Savita, recently honored for her 300th international appearance, will be a crucial pillar in India’s defensive setup.

Adding fresh energy to the roster, five new faces – Jyoti Singh, Sujata Kujur, Ajmina Kujur, Pooja Yadav, and Mahima Tete – have received their maiden call-ups to the senior national team and could potentially earn their first international caps during the tour.

This Australia series offers India a valuable opportunity to test depth, assess new talent, and gain critical match experience against high-caliber opposition in the lead-up to future international events.
