Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil in recent times indicated that India isn't suffering from a water shortage problem, but a water management problem, and that the nation needs better conservation, distribution, and sustainable patterns urgently.
According to Patil, the country has plenty of water resources available, but its management, storage, and utilisation inefficiency is the root cause of water crises repeating every time in a majority of the regions.
To address these problems, Patil has undertaken activities like Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain 2025 with a renewed emphasis on rainwater harvesting, recharging of groundwater, and community participation towards water saving. He also brought to light the importance of utilizing technology and concerted efforts so as to meet new levels of water management and achieve long-term water security for the entire populace.
Patil's observation sheds light on the government's shift from simply increasing the supply of water to maximizing how the available quantities are utilized, stored, and shared-particularly in the context of climate change and urbanization.
He called for increased contributions from local communities, industries, and state governments, and reiterated that effective water management is part of India's future development and sustainability.
