On Thursday, July 6th, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge appointed Kanhaiya Kumar as AICC in-charge of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) with immediate effect, according to a statement issued by KC Venugopal, the Congress general secretary organization. Mr. Kanhaiya who is also worked as the former jawaharlal nehru university students union president. He was born and brought up in Bihar's Begusarai district. After finishing his Ph.D. from JNU he contested the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 from Begusarai on a CPI ticket and lost To giriraj Singh of BJP. He joined the congress in 2021 from the communist party of India CPI and actively participated in the Bharat jodo yatra led by Rahul Gandhi and walked the entire distance from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.
According to sources in the party, Mr Kumar is seen as a leader who could apeal to younger voters and build on the party's apeal among first time voters with his oratory skills.his appointment puts to rest rumors doing the rounds that the congress was looking for a larger role for him that included a Pradesh congress committee post.
