Karnataka CM accused of trying to kill police officer

The Janata Dal (Secular) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have accused Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of trying to kill an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). On Monday, the JDS released a video claiming that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah raised his hands angrily at the police on the stage of a public meeting.

On social media 'X', the JDS wrote, "Blinded by the arrogance of power, the Chief Minister has openly behaved as a threat to the police. This is against his position and an unforgivable crime." They further added, "Power is not permanent. The Chief Minister should correct his behavior."

The BJP also strongly criticized the Chief Minister over the incident. In a post, the BJP asked, "If the Chief Minister himself behaves like this towards the police, then what will the common people expect? What message does such behavior send for the state?"

Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje condemned the incident and said, “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah tried to slap a police officer in public during a rally in Belagavi. This is very shameful. In a democracy, everyone has the right to protest, but the Chief Minister did not show even this minimum tolerance.” She further alleged, “Siddaramaiah is popular in Pakistan and often makes comments in favor of Pakistan.”

Video footage of the incident shows Siddaramaiah angrily calling a police officer present on the stage while addressing a Congress protest rally and raising his hand. At that time, BJP women workers at the venue displayed black clothes and raised anti-government slogans, which is believed to be the reason for the Chief Minister’s reaction.

The incident has spread tension in Karnataka politics and opposition parties have demanded the Chief Minister’s resignation.
