A new liquor policy has been introduced by Kerala's state government which relaxes the dry day rule and permits the sale of tadka, one of the varieties of Malayalee drinks, in star hotels for the first time. The move was taken because the government wants to boost tourism to the state and for higher local-brewed liquor consumption.
The idea is to popularize tadka as Kerala's common drink. Accordingly, some licensed restaurants will now remain open on liquor sale prohibited days. On the other hand, tadka would be permitted in four-star and higher-rated hotels.
There will have to be adherence to some rules and sanitary guidelines. The opposition party has stated that this is merely a drive to encourage the consumption of alcohol, but the existing government argues it is a progressive move towards strengthening the economy and tourism in the state.
However, the new liquor policy in Kerala brought far-reaching reforms in the retail sales and consumption of liquor within the state.
