A fisherman from Kerala was able to breathe a sigh of relief after he won the 70 lakh Akshaya lottery run by the state government, only hours after receiving an attachment notice from a bank regarding the attachment of his property due to default on loan payments.

On October 12, Pookunju started his day as he always does, and on his way to get the fish he sells during the day, he purchased an Akshaya lottery ticket with the first prize of 70 lakh.

He bought a lottery ticket that day at approximately 1:00 p.m. Little did he realise that his attempt to test his luck would make him a billionaire by the time he got home that day. He was informed, however, that the Union Karunagapally had served him an attachment notice due to his incapacity to repay a loan of Rs 9 lakh that he had received to construct his home.

After receiving the bank notification, his brother contacted him shortly after to inform him that the lottery ticket winner had been declared and was Pookunju himself, holding Akshaya Lottery No. AZ 907042.

The following day, he returned to the same bank to pick up the winnings of Rs 70 lakh that it had sent him with an attachment notice.
