LANDSLIDE IN MAHARASHTRA'S RAIGAD DISTRICT KILLS 22, RESCUE OPERATIONS CONTINUE

NDRF Deployed to Assist in Rescue Operations After Landslide in Maharashtra

Talavade, Maharashtra - A landslide in Talavade village in Maharashtra's Raigad district on Thursday, July 21st, has killed at least 22 people and injured 14. The landslide happened just after torrential downfall in the area.


The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed to the landslide site to assist with rescue operations. The NDRF team has so far rescued 14 people and recovered 22 bodies. The search operation is still underway to find any survivors.


The landslide has caused extensive damage to houses and other structures in the village. The state government has declared an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of the dead and Rs 2 lakh each to the wounded.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished speedy recovery to the injured. He has also declared compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the dead and Rs 50,000 each to the wounded.


The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, has visited the landslide site and reviewed the rescue operation. He has directed the officials to provide all necessary assistance to the affected people.


The landslide shows us the  dangers posed by natural disasters. It is important to take precautions and stay safe during the monsoon season.


WHAT WE CAN DO TO STAY SAFE FROM LANDSLIDE DURING MONSOON SEASON ??


1) Be aware of the weather forecast and stay informed about any impending storms.


2)Avoid driving through flooded areas. If you must drive, be sure to use caution and proceed slowly.


3)Be aware of the signs of a landslide, such as cracks in the ground, trees leaning at an angle, and mudslides.


4) If you see any signs of a landslide, evacuate the area immediately.


5)If you are caught in a landslide, try to stay calm and move away from the falling debris. If you are buried, try to create an air pocket and call for help.
