Ludhiana Court Orders Takedown of Cop's Alleged Audio Clip from Social Media

image

There is no available information about the Ludhiana court ordering a police officer's alleged audio clip to be taken down from social media. Nonetheless, such examples have been given where courts intervened to ensure stops of objectionable content on social media websites.

In this aspect, India courts have been insistent in seeking social media sites to remove unsubstantiated or defamatory content. For instance, a Ludhiana court recently ordered the removal of a controversial video of a senior police officer calling it digitally manipulated and intended to defame the individual and the police force. Similarly, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered the removal of insulting material against judges emphasizing the need to maintain constitutional bodies' dignity.

In the case of police officers, courts are inclined to make sure that nothing published on social media is detrimental to public confidence in single officers or the police department overall.

If the audio recording of a police officer were found defamatory or unfounded, it is likely to be removed by court order to protect the reputation of the individual officer from harm and provide the public with information about law enforcers in a good light.
