 June 5, 2025: Today,

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will officially launch the final section of the Nagpur Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway. This route is 701 kilometres long and, eventually completed, will connect Nagpur to Mumbai. The last part is approximately 76 kilometers long. It extends from Igatpuri in Nashik to Amane in Thane district. After this length is completed, travelers would be able to commute between Nagpur and Mumbai in eight hours. Previously, the voyage would take 16 to 18 hours.

Igatpuri, Kutghar (near Shahapur), and Amane are three significant intersections on this section of the road. It also contains the 7.8-kilometer-long road tunnel, which is the longest in India. The tunnel, which passes through Kasara Ghat, assists drivers in avoiding hazardous and hilly roadways. The construction of the last section cost about ₹1,180 crore. By making it simpler to transport goods and travel between villages and cities, it is anticipated to benefit farmers, traders, and small enterprises. Additionally, it will speed up trade by improving transportation to Mumbai's large port.

Along with the highway, the Chief Minister will also open a new section of the Thane Creek Bridge in Vashi today. This new three-lane bridge will help to alleviate traffic congestion and make it easier to approach Mumbai from Navi Mumbai. With this completed expressway, Maharashtra now has a faster and safer road connecting two important cities. The Samruddhi Mahamarg will bring growth, jobs, and improved transportation to various areas of the state.
