Mumbai May 21 2025: According to a statement issued by the State Health Department on Tuesday Maharashtra has recorded two COVID-19-related fatalities since the beginning of the year.

Both the deaths were reported in Mumbai and involved patients with serious underlying health conditions.

One of the deceased was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome accompanied by a hypocalcemia-induced seizure, while the other was undergoing treatment for cancer, the department noted.

Since January, a total of 6,066 swab samples have been tested for COVID-19 across the state, with 106 returning positive results. Of these, 101 cases were reported from Mumbai, while the remaining infections were detected in Pune, Thane, and Kolhapur.

Currently, 52 individuals are undergoing treatment for COVID-19. Most are experiencing mild symptoms and recovering at home, while 16 patients have been hospitalized for further medical care.

Health officials also pointed out a rising trend in COVID-19 cases not just within Maharashtra, but across several states and countries, urging the public to remain cautious.
