MANIPUR VIOLENCE: CM N BIREN SINGH APPEALS FOR PEACE; 60 DEAD, OVER 1700 HOMES TORCHED

CM Singh briefed the situation of violence hit Manipur to the reporters

The death rate increased to 60 due to the violence that took place in Manipur on May 3. CM Biren Singh stated to the reporters on Monday that over 230 people have been injured and 1700 houses have been burnt and around 20,000 people have been evacuated from the violence-hit areas of the state, while 10,000 people' are still stranded.


     Around 60 innocent people have lost their lives, 231 people suffered injuries and around 1700 houses burned down in the unfortunate incident of May 3. I appeal to people to bring peace and calm to the state. Transportation of stranded persons to their respective locations has started," the Manipur CM stated.


    There was a huge number of people stranded in the violence-hit districts and the Assam Rifles and Paramilitary forces worked with the state police to evacuate over 20,000 people. CM Biren Singh said that the government has formed a sub-cabinet committee to handle the safe transportation of the people left stranded. There were students from neighbouring states of Assam and Tripura who will be relocated back to their families.


    On talking about the investigation of the matter CM Singh assured that high-level inquiry woukd be conducted to fix responsibility on persons and groups who instigated the violence. He also added about probing the government servants who did not meet their responsibilities at such time.
